Workforce Development and Business Opportunities
The Foundation several years ago formed the Stapleton Workforce and Business Opportunity Committee (WFBO) with the support of Forest City, Park Creek Metro District and Mortenson. The committee works on programs and marketing strategies to increase participation in businesses and employment of women and minorities. The committee includes a representative from the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development’ workforce office which helps Stapleton businesses find employees from nearby neighborhoods. Participation by small and minority construction contractors at Stapleton ranks among the highest of commercial and residential projects in Colorado.
Although there have been many successes at Stapleton in this arena, there is still much room for improvement. The Foundation worked with the Stapleton Development Corporation (SDC) Board and staff throughout this past year on a audit regarding diversity achievements and achievement gaps. Next year the Foundation is prepared to help the SDC Board and staff implement new programs that will advance Stapleton’s efforts to help small, and women and minority owned businesses.
